thumb sucking

Yes, my son is a thumb-sucker.
Yes, I offered him a pacifier and for while it worked in the beginning, but he's over it.
No, I didn't want to push the pacifier.
Yes, I've tried it again and he'll take it, but it's not his favorite.
No, he doesn't suck his thumb all day every day.
Yes, he only does it when he's really tired or really hungry.
No, I'm not worried about not being able to take it away.
Yes, I think it's the cutest thing ever.
No, I don't want to stop him from doing it.
And no, I will not be sorry later.  It's called self-soothing people.
Yes, I'm happy as heck that he does this.  The last thing I want to do is spend the rest of my life searching for a stupid plastic germ filled chocking hazard.
My son sucks his thumb and I'm letting him.
Please, stop asking me about it.

introducing solids

Thanksgiving day, we attempted to try solids with Coen.  We started with Earth's best, single grain, infant rice cereal.
How did it go? Well, something like this... Cereal = 0, Coen = 1
As of right now, solids are not a favorite in our household.  I had read and had been told by our dr. to nurse Coen and then introduce the solids.  At first, it was fun and different, but then it became messy and not so successful, so we just stopped.  No big deal.  The idea is to introduce him to solids, not to stuff him full of solids.
These are our goals with solids... Continuing to nurse (on demand) as normal, making this the main source of his calorie intake. Introduce solids about the same time of the day, after being nursed. Feeding solids every other day, or every couple days to get him familiar. Solids will be given after nursing and only one time per day (on the days given). We started with cereal and will introduce veggies or fruit every 4 to 5 days, sticking with one item for 4 to 5 d…

fortune

The last couple of weeks have been really rough with sleep.  Some nights he'll sleep just fine and other nights he's coughing every hour or two hours and not able to get it under control.  These are the days/weeks/months that I wish we had a video monitor.  Why?  Because we have a first floor master and while I'm enjoying running up and down the stairs every time we want to check on him, it's just not easy to do every time he's coughing uncontrollably and upset.  It's really tough on me and my sleepy state.  I've also spent the last few nights upstairs co-sleeping with him because it's just easier for me to be close to him and able to respond faster.  Being downstairs hurts my response time and makes him more worked up by the time I can get up there and I don't like that.
This is my sleepy smilely baby before bed last night.  He's just so happy.

A baby who doesn't sleep well = a mama & dadda that don't sleep well either.  It's b…

4 generations

Yes, another phone picture.  But it's sweet.
This is Coen, Mr. Hope and Coen's Great-Grandfather who is 94.  We hadn't had the two of them meet yet because I didn't want to go to an assisted living when he was little, then his grandfather was ill, then Coen was ill... So anyway, 5 months later they met and it was pretty cute.  My only problem is I forgot my camera and only had my phone.
Oh well.  Now if we would've had Mr. Hope's mom in there, it would've been 4 generations!
On a side note, Coen slept for an ungodly amount of time last night!  And he only got up once to nurse, which is normal.  But seriously, it was only once and then he went right back down.  I think what helped was my response time and the fact that he's starting to feel better.  He's still doing breathing treatments, but his cough is much better.  He's still working up the mucus, but it's so much better than it was.  I'm hoping this continues through the weekend as w…

Coen says....

Remember this post?
Well, I'm growing and I just wanted to show...
And, who doesn't love laying in the laundry basket while mama starts another load of laundry.
Oh and my neck.  Yes it's red and my mom knows about it... We're working on making this go away, but it's basically from wearing bibs all day and drooling on myself.  I cannot stop that now.  I have teeth coming in... that's what I do.  So for now it just looks bad, but it doesn't hurt.  Not that much, anyway.

Ornament exchange...

I'm channeling my inner creative self and joining Ann Marie at white house, black shutters in her Homemade Christmas Ornament Exchange 2011.

I have an idea that I've been hoping to try for some time and this will give the me the opportunity to actually execute it!  If you have a crafty side, you should join in.  If nothing else, just make one and exchange it!  Could be fun to see what you receive?  That's why I'm doing it.  I want to see how creative someone else is.  :)
OH and......... Don't get me wrong.  This talk about my tree going up early and all that... doesn't make me want to skip over Thanksgiving.  My real reason is that I put up a lot of decorations and I'd just like to enjoy them for a few days longer than 33... I won't do it.  But I like to think about it.
Also, from your comments yesterday, it made me ultra excited about creating a giving/thankful tree for this year (if I'm lucky) but next year, for sure. I love the idea of collect…

Dear Santa...

A week ago, I started asking around to a few local friends about where the most handsome Santa is and whether they would let me take my own pictures.  I got a few responses about mall Santa's and while it wasn't really my cup of tea, I would've probably done it, just to get the picture with Coen.
Well, little did I know, I wouldn't have to go very far to find a VERY handsome & kind Santa.
My mom, sister and I were flying around town on Saturday searching for the craft shows.  I had heard about a craft show on the radio and we went to check it out.  Not only was it the best craft show of the day, but it also had photos with Santa.
Coen was wearing this darling little outfit because he's growing like a weed and almost had grown out of this 3 month outfit, so he was looking super cute too.  We plopped him on Santa's lap and it was like they were long lost friends.  He didn't cry, fuss, or wiggle off his lap.  He even turned in to grab on his hat for a min…

Coen, 5 months

Dear Coen,
Today, November 10, you are 5 months old!  I cannot believe how quickly time is passing by, but I have to admit that we are just enjoying every moment of it.  You are so much fun to be around and so easy going.  We couldn't be more happy with how easily you've meshed right into our family.  We love every minute that we are with you and miss you like crazy when we are apart.
You're doing great at your sitters, she loves you, I'm sure of it.  You do so well when we travel and you love visiting with new friends, you smile at everyone and you're almost always in a good mood.  You're all around a great baby!  Seriously.  We are just so lucky!
New things you're doing... This is big news... YOU'RE CUTTING TEETH!  You already have your two bottom teeth poking through and luckily, you haven't used them on me while nursing.  (Everyone, please knock on wood that this will stay this way and I won't get to experience the baby biting.)  It's ve…

i had to...

Because...

I love him and his dad.  So much.

nebulizer

I have a rule in my house, in the morning.
Mama doesn't get dressed for work, until Coen is dressed, fed, put in his car seat and out the door.
Why?
Because if you aren't careful, my might spit up or throw up on your before he leaves and then you have to change your outfit anyway.
This morning, was a prime example as to why this rule is important to remember, however, maybe a bath towel wasn't the best option.
About 10 days ago, Coen starting having this cough.  At first it was just scary because it was like he was coughing and couldn't catch his breath.  Because we had just been at the dr. for his 4 month appointment and there was talk about whooping cough, this is immediately where my mind went.  Not to mention the fact that there was a man in the next room who seriously was yelling through his cough and scaring the crap out of me.  I just assumed that this is what he had.  However, it was on a Sunday that this all was going down and the pediatricians office is cl…

my wish list

This year, I feel like I've become a little better at asking for things that I need verses things that I'd want for Christmas.  As a family, we make list of things that we need and we pass them around to give everyone a better idea of what to get us for the year.  Makes it so we don't end up with something we really don't want or need.

My big item on my list this year, is my lens.

The beautiful Nikon AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5/6G Ed VR Zoom Lens that I've been dreaming about.  I've actually used this lens and borrowed it from a friend to take photos before, but I'd really like to hold this one in my hands and call it mine.  My husband feels the same way about this lens, I just cannot wait to see if this gets crossed off my list.  We'll see. I'm going to go to a local photo shop this week to check it out, again.

The next item would be a label maker.  Not because I love to be completely organized, but because I strive to be completely organized and …

commitment

I made the commitment to NaBloPoMo and I'm completely failing.  I don't know what it is, blogging normally comes naturally to me and because I'm expected to post, I just can't bring myself to do it.  So I'm removing myself from plan of HAVING to post every day and instead, I'm just going to do what I normally do.

Yes, that photo thing was really a cool idea and I'd like to complete it, but I'll just post it as I go and yes, it will take me more than 30 days.  I really want to take the time to take these pictures and to edit them and if I don't do those things that doing the challenge, in my mind, is a waste of time.  Oh and I refuse to take any of the pictures with my phone and that's my go-to camera right now.  So I just have to wait it out and find the time.

So, I'm going to continue to blog in November but I'm not going to stress about how often...

Sorry NaBloPoMo.

it's that time...

Every year we send Christmas cards and we've sent photo cards since the year we were married.  They are more fun to send to people to show them how you've changed over the years and whatnot.

This year, being Coen's first Christmas, I just cannot decide what to do.  I thought about using a family picture from our photo shoot with Britt, but I don't know if I'll do that or use pictures of just Coen or maybe have multiple pictures of Coen through the year.  I don't know.

Shutterfly offers great designs and beautiful cards (have you seen their new holiday cards this year?).  I love looking through cards and designs until I find what works for what phot I'm trying to use.  This year will be harder, because Coen doesn't really take a bad picture.

These are some options that I'm thinking about...

I cannot decide what's going to work... guess I just have to wait to see how the pictures turn out.  Either way, I'm stoked about Coen's first Christm…

NaBloPoMo 2011

I'm doing it.

Thanks to Wendy for the above image.

I'm going to be attempting this...

I saw where this blogger was doing this, so I'm going to give it a try too.  Sounds like fun.  Just hope I have time to complete it all, day by day. {OH and tomorrow will be day 1 for this photo challenge.}

Will you be joining in on NaBloPoMo??
