Sprout | Push Present, final thoughts.....

We believe that we've narrowed down our search to these two options:

Nikon d3000

Or the Nikon d3100:

How did we get here?

Well, basically in all the research that we've done, plus all the conversations that we've had with multiple people who own DSLRs, we heard that we should really pick between a Canon & a Nikon for quality.  Aside from that, knowing which product to choose is based on personal preference.  How it feels in your hands?  How you like the menu features?  If you like the weight?  Etc...

Canon has lots of options but after putting those cameras in our hands and looking at a few other things (price, availability, size, etc...) we just decided that a Nikon was going to fit our needs best.

Nikon has been making cameras for years and it's what they do best.  When you buy one camera from Nikon (specifically a DSLR) you have the ability to grow from the body of one with all of the lenses they offer.  Your one camera can become about 20 others because other lense availability.

The major difference between the d3000 and the d3100 from our non-professional photo taking eye is that the d3100 has better ISOs and offers an HD video feature.

Yes, the d3100 is a newer model.  It offers features that were upgraded from those behind it, but in our opinion, while a great camera, we don't see the value behind it.  No matter what we buy, there is going to be something bigger and better that comes along.  Like the iPad, if we were to buy a camera in December, we would've heard about the newest iPad coming out soon and been disappointed that we weren't getting the best of the best.  But that's what happens.

We aren't buying this DSLR to be a replacement to our current camera.  Sure, we are going to use it until our fingers fall off, but we will still snap pictures with it from time to time and still use the video feature that is available on our point and shoot.  The DSLR is going to be our big time camera that we only take with us when it works.  We aren't going to pack 3 different bags everytime that we go somewhere.  We're going to take it with us when it makes sense.

Anyway, so basically it comes down to where we can purchase this and when.

We believe we're making an educated decision and realize that what we aren't buying may not be the best of the best, but for our purpose, it's going to be great!  And honestly, we cannot wait to get our hands on it and try it out!

There are 100,000 different reviews out there that share information about either side of this d3000, we know that and we understand that this sort of thing happens for lots of products out there.  If you forsee any major reason for not purchasing this camera, I loved to hear you feedback.  Just for information sake.  Otherwise, I believe we're going to make the plunge very soon!

Cannot wait!

I am very, very jealous!!! I am taking a photo class right now and learning about f-stops and shutter speeds... and I'm drooling over the SLRs of others' in the class. It's definitely on my list...

I've had good experiences buying cameras at best buy of all places. I find their camera people are actually pretty knowledgeable. :)

Deciding which camera to buy is a crazy process. There are so many different types/functions/modes on each one. To research all of that is a job in itself. Glad you narrowed it down and you will have so much fun with your new toy :)

Regardless of what camera you choose, brand, model, etc. You will LOVE it. A DSLR is the way to go with little ones.

Can't wait for you to get it and start playing...and can't wait to see the pics.
I have the d3000 and I ADORE IT.

My husband who is WAY more knowledgeable about cameras/photography than I am - said it was a great starter camera. (He uses a professional one.)

The reason he didn't get the d3100 for me was because he didn't think I'd want to manually focus the HD video. I agreed.

Anywho - if I were you, I'd buy the d3000 then buy an add-on flash. It makes a WORLD of difference in your photos.

that nightmare

Time is passing and permanent/next step decisions AREN'T being made about where our marriage is going.

Not because of anything other than HOPE....

Hope that these changes are real.  I can't deal with an act anymore.  I'm done with those fake attempts.  It just won't work for me.  I can't.

Hope that he really wants to change.  Because he's the only one that can make that decision for himself and not anyone else.

Hope that a new normal is really a possible option.  And not just a glimmer of something that will eventually be shattered and destroyed.

Hope that we could work through all of this and actually land on our feet.  But he has to want to do those things and my guidance won't help him.  He's got to want to do them on his own.  I can't help or ask or guide.  He has to do it.  Alone and with the help of God.

Hope that the narcissistic behaviors are being dealt with in positive ways and won't resurface.  With the help of prayer, guidance from h…

my little model...

There is a blog that I follow of a photographer that I saw at the Delaware County Fair. Her studio is near my home town and her pictures are very vibrant. I enjoy looking at different aspects of photography and I like seeing how didn’t people capture pictures and scenes… I guess you could say I’m envious.

While following her blog, I saw a post that stated Calling All Furry Friends and immediately responded. I have always wanted to have Toby get professional pictures done but I just fear that I wouldn’t pick the right person to capture his personality.

Anyway, as you can read in the link above, there were a handful of photographers at Megan Morgan’s studio and they were all going to be there just to take furry friends pictures.

Of the people that were there two have uploaded their pictures and Toby is in them!

First, Megan Morgan’s blog: Weekend Workshop

Then, Holly McCaig’s blog: Dogs Everywhere

They all captured some great pictures and I can’t wait to get my hands on them so that I …

Starting here..

I know that I haven't really updated this in a long while. I apologize. In the moments it was hard enough to survive, let alone write about it or find time to write about it.

With that said, I've told people over and over again that I'm going to write again, just not sure where to start.
So, today, I'm starting here.
My mom is terminal.
Words that I cannot believe have to leave my mouth or my fingers.
She's been battling Ovarian Cancer for well over 10 years and this last year or 8 months+ have been just the worst.  Her body is being consumed by cancer and with every day that passes we are just another closer to losing her.
She's fought this whole time and continues to beat the odds that the doctors have placed before her. She's set goals and surpassed them and when the doctors say something, it's like she mentally tells herself that it's just NOT going to happen and she flies by those measurable items.
She's been a rock star and I have known …
