This is something that I'm currently struggling with, where to register?

Babies R Us is about 20 minutes from my house and there are several around the city/state that I'm in so it would be really convenient to not only buy things, but also return things if I registered there.

Buy Buy Baby while about 40 minutes away, not as popular country wide and a little unfamiliar to those that don't have a lot of babies in their lives, you know?  BUT, from what I understand, there selection is unbelievable (compared to BRU) and their knowledge of their products is also outstanding.

With all of that aside, not everything that I'd like to register is at those stores, so I was struggling on how else to register.  Should I register at more individual stores or was there some way to register and house everything that I'd want out of one of the stores above.

So, after talking to a lot of my friends and looking around online, I found where Amazon supports a Universal Baby Registry!  What is this you ask?

Basically, if you're shopping around on the Internet and you find something that you want to add to your registry, you click the button (that you've saved in your favorites bar) "add to Registry" and it goes there.  And we all know that I have an obsession with Etsy and a dear love for Ikea... So those items can still be on my registry without doing individual registries all over the country.

I also have worked with a few vendors on Etsy and they'll do individual listings for me that will allow for those items that I love from their store to be on their site, just for my universal registry to ensure that it will be there when I go to register and when someone goes to buy.  I just had a fear that with all the turn over on products that it would be gone when someone would go to register and now it won't be!

Do you have any thoughts about a Universal Registry?  Have you known anyone to use one before?  Is there any reason why you wouldn't recommend doing this?

Otherwise, I believe it's a go!

The only thing that I've realized is that I'm only going to register for items on Amazon that I can't get at BRU or BBB OR items that are significantly cheaper on Amazon than the other stores.

Some people have wondered why I didn't go with Target and while I do love Target, I've heard their return policy is just horrid.  I've seen where people have only registered at Target because that's the most convenient for most, but I'm pretty sure that everything Target has that we would want will be at BRU or on Amazon.

Let me know if you think we should have any other reservations.

Updated to say: YES, I will have a registry at a "standard" baby store and the universal registry as well.  That way those that don't use the Internet can still go to the store and print the registry and look at our items, but those that are Internet savvy can venture out to the Amazon registry to see other items.

So will you do an Amazon Universal Registry and then one at a baby store? I just worry about family who aren't computer saavy and only having an online registry. That may be completely unfounded for you, but for me, it's a real concern.

But I have a friend who used one and I did see some Etsy stuff on there. I haven't talked to her to see how her experience was, but if I do, I'll let you know!

we did a target registry and an amazon one. unfortunately i found out that most of my family was not down with the amazon registry, where most of the *FUN* stuff was listed. i'm so into the internet that it never occurs to me that most people aren't tech savvy.

knock on wood that you won't have the same problem.

My best friend did the Amazon universal registry and it worked great - you might just need to educate those in your life about how exactly to use it. :)

You are right, Target sucks for registry.

I love the Amazon idea, but a lot of older people like to stick to going in a store and actually physically buying things. So, it's good to keep the standard baby store registry too.

Registering is so fun!
I think it's a great idea. I'd use the amazon one in a heartbeat. (My cousin recently did an amazon registry for her wedding and was able to get some really fun stuff from a variety of vendors.)

Best of luck, friend.

(We ended up registering at 3 places - why? Because I really wanted the discount at one of them. I only told people about the 2, though.)

I have to tell you that the return policy at BRU isn't all that great either. There is a limited number of days - so if you get (for example) a baby gate that you might not use for at least 8 months or so, and then find out it doesn't work with your house, it doesn't matter if you have the receipt or that it was on your registry, you can't return it. I received a gift that I had registered for, and when i opened it, all of the hardware was missing, so I couldn't put it together...because it came "free" with another item, I couldn't return it, or even exchange it.

There isn't a BBB really close to me, but I've been to one, and I LOVED it...SO much more than BRU. And yes, the staff seemed to be much more knowledgeable.

I did an amazon registry and thought it was great - I only had maybe 20 things on there though - a few etsy items, and some things that were way cheaper than at Target or BRU. I luckily didn't need to really return much to Target or BRU, but I never had a problem when I did as long as it was on the registry or I had a receipt. If I hadn't registered at Target, my family would have just gone there anyway and bought random things for me, so that's why it was a must for me!

I had the Universal registry and found that people did their shopping more last minute and so would go to the stores and I didn't get very many things off of the Amazon registry.

that nightmare

Time is passing and permanent/next step decisions AREN'T being made about where our marriage is going.

Not because of anything other than HOPE....

Hope that these changes are real.  I can't deal with an act anymore.  I'm done with those fake attempts.  It just won't work for me.  I can't.

Hope that he really wants to change.  Because he's the only one that can make that decision for himself and not anyone else.

Hope that a new normal is really a possible option.  And not just a glimmer of something that will eventually be shattered and destroyed.

Hope that we could work through all of this and actually land on our feet.  But he has to want to do those things and my guidance won't help him.  He's got to want to do them on his own.  I can't help or ask or guide.  He has to do it.  Alone and with the help of God.

Hope that the narcissistic behaviors are being dealt with in positive ways and won't resurface.  With the help of prayer, guidance from h…

my little model...

There is a blog that I follow of a photographer that I saw at the Delaware County Fair. Her studio is near my home town and her pictures are very vibrant. I enjoy looking at different aspects of photography and I like seeing how didn’t people capture pictures and scenes… I guess you could say I’m envious.

While following her blog, I saw a post that stated Calling All Furry Friends and immediately responded. I have always wanted to have Toby get professional pictures done but I just fear that I wouldn’t pick the right person to capture his personality.

Anyway, as you can read in the link above, there were a handful of photographers at Megan Morgan’s studio and they were all going to be there just to take furry friends pictures.

Of the people that were there two have uploaded their pictures and Toby is in them!

First, Megan Morgan’s blog: Weekend Workshop

Then, Holly McCaig’s blog: Dogs Everywhere

They all captured some great pictures and I can’t wait to get my hands on them so that I …

Starting here..

I know that I haven't really updated this in a long while. I apologize. In the moments it was hard enough to survive, let alone write about it or find time to write about it.

With that said, I've told people over and over again that I'm going to write again, just not sure where to start.
So, today, I'm starting here.
My mom is terminal.
Words that I cannot believe have to leave my mouth or my fingers.
She's been battling Ovarian Cancer for well over 10 years and this last year or 8 months+ have been just the worst.  Her body is being consumed by cancer and with every day that passes we are just another closer to losing her.
She's fought this whole time and continues to beat the odds that the doctors have placed before her. She's set goals and surpassed them and when the doctors say something, it's like she mentally tells herself that it's just NOT going to happen and she flies by those measurable items.
She's been a rock star and I have known …
