So, I realized last night as I was uploading these pictures that I don't have an "after" picture of the stripes. But hopefully you'll get the idea and just picture it... I might post one some day, just not today.
This is about the day I decided to paint stripes in our 1/2 bath....
I tried very hard to search the internet for every tip that I could find to make this process go smoothly. I even had a laser level that I thought was going to be the cure all for the entire project. Boy was I wrong. That thing was a joke. I ended up using a long ruler-like level that worked like a dream.
I bought the green painting tape and I don't know if it worked any better than the blue painteres tape, I just know that it worked. It was a little dizzy doing those stripes in a small space, but I'm glad that I started there. I couldn't imagine doing them in a bigger room now. Too much work.
The one thing that I knew but totally forgot in the process is...
If you're measuring down from your ceiling, keep in mind that your ceiling may or may not be level in some spots. So when you measure down 4" from the top on one spot, it may be totally off in another spot. It's just something you have to watch and boy did I run into that in a few spots. But I worked it out.
Also, I thought I was being really funky with my stripe measurments and making them all different sizes based on my measuring. Again... I was WAY wrong. I measured out my stripes and taped it all and it looked great. Then when I went to paint, I was like.........Wait. I have a 5" stripe, then 2" of blank, then a 4.5" stripe, then 3" of blank and then a 5" stripe... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Oh well.
By the suggestion of my friend Whitney, I might add a skinning little stripe above the last one in the 3" mark... just to break it up. But this would mean that I would have to measure and tape again. I'm not really crazy about the idea just yet, but I'm still thinking about it.
My other plan, is to hang these cream colored frames in that bathroom (our 1/2 bath) and put pictures in them of places, things, or scenes, that don't include people. I was thinking like memorable places or places that mean something to me, but I haven't really started looking for those images yet. Most of them, I would imagine, I already have in my stash of photos, just have print them. I'm hoping to have this project completely done before Thanksgiving, but we'll see. I bought the frames at IKEA and I have to get a special matte made for each since the opening is a little wonky.
I'll post some "after pictures" then... Once it's complete.
